Abiteron in Pakistan: Abiraterone (Zytiga) 250 mg Tablets:

Abiraterone is now available in Pakistan under the brand name, Abiteron. The original drug is Zytiga which is not available in Pakistan.

Zytiga (Abiraterone) Indications:

Zytiga or Abiraterone is a drug used to treat metastatic prostatic cancer that is resistant to castration.

It is administered with glucocorticoids to prevent signs of adrenal insufficiency such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and hypotension.

How does Zytiga work?

Zytiga works by blocking the key enzyme, 17-hydroxylase. By blocking 17-hydroxylase, it blocks the production of testosterone in the adrenals, testes, and fatty tissues.

Zytiga Dose:

Zytiga is given in a dose of 1 gm once daily, equivalent to 4 tablets of 250 mg of Abiraterone.

In addition, 5 mg of prednisolone is given along with Zytiga twice daily.

It is safe in kidney patients, however, in moderate hepatic impairment (Child Class B), it is given at 250 mg once daily.

The best time to take Zytiga (Abiraterone) is on an empty stomach, one hour before a meal, or two hours after a meal.

Patients should have Liver function tests done at periodic intervals to diagnose liver injury earlier.
