Sitagliptin, commonly known by its brand name Inosita, is a medication primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It belongs to a class of drugs called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. Sitagliptin works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones in the body, which help to regulate blood sugar levels by stimulating the release of insulin and decreasing the production of glucagon.

Sitagliptin works by inhibiting the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which in turn increases the levels of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These hormones stimulate insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and decrease glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells, thereby reducing blood glucose levels.
